Mercedes Benz and Eddie's Wheels, a company that creates custom dog wheelchairs, collaborated to make a wheelchair for a dog involved in a car accident in Mexico.
The Animal Pad, a dog rescue service, spotted the two-year-old pup back in April while working a rescue operation in Mexico. They noticed the dog was missing both its hind legs.
"When we first showed up, the dog owner was playing soccer with his buddy," Henry Friedman, a dog rescuer, said in a video on Instagram. "All while his dog was wasting away on the ground. Not a care in the world."
Friedman and The Animal Pad took the dog, who they named Bunny, to see a veterinarian as she was infested with ticks and maggots. The examination revealed that her face was swollen due to dog bites. Doctors also said the pup would never use her hind legs again.
Bunny was transported to Shelter to Solider in California, a specialized care unit for dogs in need of healing. To increase her chances of survival, Bunny received a blood transfusion at a Specialty Vet Hospital before undergoing significant surgery.
On May 1, The Animal Pad announced Bunny's surgery was a success.
"5 days post-surgery, here she is, hippity-hoppity right into her brand-new life," The Animal Pad wrote.
Although Bunny fully recovered, she requires a wheelchair to move independently.
One viewer, deeply moved by Bunny's plight, commented on the original Bunny video on TikTok, saying that she deserved nothing less than the "Mercedes Benz of wheelchairs."
Friedman reached out to Mercedes Benz after he thought the comment was funny.
"Bunny deserves the best," Friedman said. "I pitched the idea to Mercedes, and they absolutely loved it. They agreed to hook Bunny up with a custom wheelchair."
Eddie's Wheels collaborated with Mercedes Benz and provided Bunny with a set of wheels tailored to meet her specific needs.
